Who do I contact to obtain a building permit?

Any structure measuring 150 square feet or more requires a building permit from the County of Chesterfield. It is highly recommended anyone considering a lot modification of this size obtain a building permit prior to seeking approval for the project from the Architectural Review Committee. Information on obtaining a building permit in the County of Chesterfield may be obtained from the Department of Building Inspection.

How do I report a pothole in the neighborhood to be repaired?

Residents can complete a Highway Helpline Online Work Request on the Virginia Department of Transportation website. This form is used to place a work request for state-maintained roads for things such as drainage cleaning, pothole filling, water drainage, guard rail replacement, bridge work, signs, traffic lights, animal, tree or trash removal. Or, you can call the Highway Helpline at 1-800-367-ROAD (TTY users, call 1-800-432-1843).

Who do I contact if a streetlight is out in the neighborhood?

Residents can call Dominion Virginia Power at 1-888-667-3000 to report a streetlight outage. Please have the identification number which is located on the light pole to help assist Dominion in locating the streetlight.

How much are annual dues?

Annual dues are $275. Annual dues statements are sent to all homeowners in December of each year and are generally due by mid-February.

What are annual dues used for?

The homeowners association is responsible for maintenance including grass cutting and trash pickup of all common areas and two tot lots. Approximately 60% of annual dues revenue is used for administrative and maintenance.

What should I do if a solicitor comes to my home?

Soliciting is not permitted in River Downs. No Soliciting signs are posted at the main entrances to our neighborhood. However, there are exceptions to who may solicit. For example, non-profit organizations may solicit. Please review the Chesterfield County code regarding solicitors and permissible purposes. If a solicitor comes to your door, who is not permitted by code of Chesterfield, the best thing to do is call the police. Since we have signs posted they can come and enforce the policy. Thank you for help in keeping this nuisance to a minimum.
